Building a brand at scale

Over years of growth, product releases, and acquisitions, the Google brand had become iconic but undefined. At one time there were over 500 different sets of internal guidelines and brand documents. With standards.google, we made it easy for anyone to create products and experiences that are unmistakably Google.

In concert with many Googlers, we led the drive to create a stronger and more coherent Google brand. This included the initiation of standards.google, a refresh of Google’s product identities, the establishment of a cross-organizational steer committee, and brand-led research to proactively understand how Google’s brand should evolve.

Recognizing that Googlers use their browsers as their primary tool, we created a Chrome extension to deliver guidance and inspiration directly where they are.
